This is Terry Shores

We feel it is a special place.

You'll notice a difference as soon as you pass by one of the entrance monuments. Every house is different, every house is interesting in its own way. Trees everywhere — no sidewalks — no traffic. Its no trick to see deer, racoon, and fox. The entrance gates do not close, but somehow it seems a bit isolated — it feels like a private park. The Pinion and Blue Spruce Pine, Ash, Russian Olive, Cottonwood, and Elm trees surround our homes but through openings we have great views of Terry Lake and the mountains.

This area along the east side of Terry Lake was a fruit orchard until 1965. Since then, families have come to live here and many stayed. Kids that played in the car-tire swings over the irrigation ditch and dove from the swimming platforms in the lake now own homes here. It was a great place to grow up and they hope to keep it that way for their children.

Along with others that own property around Terry Lake, the members of Terry Shores enjoy access rights to the lake through a long-standing agreement with the Larimer-Weld Reservoir Company.

Terry Shores residents, like all others around the lake, are members of the Terry Lake Recreation Association. This Association manages and monitors all lake activities including the excellent fish stocking program that was started in the early 1990s. Boating is mainly in canoes, sailboats, and kayaks. Powered boats are limited to 10hp.

The Terry Lake Recreation Association stocks the lake with walleye, small mouth bass, bluegill, crappie, perch, and carp. A lazy day in your boat out on the water can also pay some tasty dividends if you want to give it a shot.

As a feature of the Terry Shores Association, a multi-acre parcel of land on the lake shore became a commonly-owned reserve to be used for recreation. This parcel is affectionately known as "Lot 100." Through the years, the Association has added into this parcel two shelters with electricity, water, and a gas barbeque, tennis court, badmitton court, horseshoe pits, boat storage racks, boardwalks, and acres of play-ready grass ending in a groomed sand beach. The high point of the summer for the past few years has been the 4th of July Barbeque which brings from about 500 to 700 neighbors and their families and friends down for a full day of games, food, and schmoozing.

Of all the neighborhood areas around Terry Lake, Terry Shores has the most active Homeowners Association. Its seven-person Board of Directors meets once a month to manage Association issues. Numerous committees take care of everything from welcoming new neighbors through planning and managing landscaping the common areas, to maintaining security and putting up Christmas lights on our gates.

A lot of neighborhoods have grown up in and around Fort Collins, but Terry Shores is unique — something we want to preserve.
